2011 gmc terrain transmission failure

Release time:2017-12-31

Good Day All, I have been the semi-proud owner of my 2011 Terrain now with 80+K miles. I am wondering and looking for forum feedback if we all believe GM has a transmission issue with these 4-cylinder vehicles leading to ultimate transmission failure. I have read many posts of complaints of hard down-shifting in the earlier Terrains like myself only to have the Dealership state the "Vehicle is performing to specifications at the present time". On 09/27/2011, with 17K+ miles, I brought my hard down-shifting Terrain to my Dealership for their diagnosis per my Terrainforum.net , Tech Case #71-922004371. I was able to replicate the hard down-shift for the two GM Techs that went for my demonstration of my transmission concern. They had my vehicle in their possession for 1-business day and spoke with GM engineers in Detroit and said they could not find any issues. This hard down-shift has been a daily occurrence since my first complaint on 06/25/2011 and documented per my GM Dealership with 13K+ miles. I look at all the letters I have received on my Terrain with letters dated as follows: 1. July 2013 - Timing Chain Concern 2. November 2014 - Increased Friction in the Steering System 3. February 2015 - Reprogram of Radio Control Module 4. July 2015 - High Resistance in the Side-impact Airbag Circuit 5. August 2015 ?Piston Ring Wear On 04/18/2014, with 56K+ miles I had a transmission fluid change with filter, rear differential service, and transfer case services performed. After these services the hard transmission down-shift was still present. On 02/22/2016, with 75K+ miles I had my Terrain in to address items #1 and #5 above. Several months early my Terrain was placed on the 揙il Consumption?watch program as it was using oil to pair up with timing chain noise. I thank GM for taking care of these issues with no cost me to include a loaner vehicle! On 03/25/2016, with 76K+ miles I had my Terrain in for a transmission failure as it was stuck in second gear. I was advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. I have never had a transmission failure in any vehicle I have owned, especially with being properly maintained by my dealership and with such low miles. This was a total cost to me of $4,200 including the 4-wheel alignment less taxes. I opted for the new versus re-built transmission as it was approximately $500 more and came with a 3-year, 36K mile warranty. As of 08/30/2016, with 80K+ miles the new transmission had been working perfectly to my satisfaction and WITHOUT the hard down-shift as I had experienced with the original transmission in my Terrain. After reading through numerous posts here on Terrainforum.net and with my own experience documented here, I speculate that there is an inherent issue with these transmissions whereas GM is not including their potential failures under one of their 揤ehicle Issue/Concern?letters. I have been a GM owner since I was able to drive from a Pontiac Sunbird, Grand AM, Grand Prix, GM Terrain, and lastly a Chevrolet Camaro. I look for GM to do right here and look into these hard transmission down-shifts as this repetitive operation is NOT normal and leads to premature transmission failure.
